How to Apply
Apply for financial aid each academic year by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).The earliest you may file the FAFSA is January 1 prior to the academic year for which you plan to attend WSU. Use the WSU Law School federal school code, E00435, on the FAFSA.
FAFSA on the Web is a quick and easy way to file your application. It does not require you to download or install any software. The secure (encrypted) Web site contains an optional "Worksheet," which you can print and complete before entering your FAFSA data online. As you enter data online, there are edits and prompts to help you with the completion of the form. After all required information has been entered; you can electronically sign the application with your federal Personal Identification Number (PIN).
- File early to maximize your eligibility for all aid programs.
- Enter your name and social security number exactly as it appears on your social security number card. The FAFSA process will verify your social security number, name, date of birth and citizenship status with the Social Security Administration's database.
- Use your federal tax return when completing your FAFSA to ensure correct information is entered especially related to adjusted gross income and taxes paid.
- Parental data is not required on the FAFSA for graduate/professional school students. Answer the family size/number in household questions based on the number of dependents you support, not your parents.
- We recommend having your tax return available before filling out the FAFSA you do not need to file your income tax return before submitting the FAFSA. You can estimate the information and make corrections later if necessary.
- Use our federal school code "E00435" as one of your college choices.
After you apply via FAFSA on the Web, you will receive an e-mail with a link to your Student Aid Report (SAR) information, on the web within five days.
If you do not receive communication from the federal processor within the five days, return to www.fafsa.ed.gov for FAFSA follow-up.
The federal processor will electronically transmit your FAFSA data and processing results to Wayne State University Law School as long as you provided the Law School federal code, E00435.
The Student Aid Report (SAR) data is used by the Law School Financial Aid Office to determine the type and amount of financial aid you will be awarded. You will receive an official Expected Family Contribution (EFC) on your SAR based on the processing results of your FAFSA. The EFC is a preliminary estimate based on the information you provided on your application. The SAR also states whether or not your application has been selected for a process called verification, or if additional information is needed from you.
